Branch review

Everything the current branch changes since it left its base, committed or not, as one diff.

Where Titlebar › Git › Branch changes 1 min read

How it works

  1. In the git view's sidebar, press Branch changes, under Uncommitted changes, or run Git: Branch review from the command palette.
  2. Each file the branch changed is a sheet with its diff, headed by how many commits the branch is ahead of its base and behind it, and the lines changed.
  3. The base is the repository's default branch. To compare against another, press vs and the base's name at the head of the view, and pick one. The choice is kept for the repository.
  4. Comment on any line as you would on the uncommitted changes: the review threads are the same ones.

Good to know

  • The page only reads. Stage, commit and discard from Uncommitted changes.
  • Where the repository names no default branch, the page asks once: What does this workspace merge into?
  • In the commit list, Branched from marks where the branch begins.
  • Agents read the same diff through the MCP server, so a thread on a committed line means the same to them as to you.
